Allstars beim Sportabzeichen

Letzten Freitag waren wir eingeladen, bei der Sportabzeichen-Tour im Jahnstadion dabei zu sein.
Mit Ballmaschine ausgestattet, bauten wir den mobilen Batting Cage auf und warteten auf die Besucher. Zahlreiche Göttinger Schulen kamen vorbei, und alle durften sich einmal im Schlagen versuchen. Die Kids konnten sich an der Tossingmaschine üben, wer mutig genug war, auch an der Pitching-Maschine. Und auch wenn die Hände beim Schlagen gezwiebelt haben, waren alle mächtig stolz.
Mit sichtlichem Spaß probierte sich jeder im Baseball aus – viele wollten gleich zwei oder mehr Runden schlagen.
Und bei aller Freude rückte das wechselhafte Wetter auch komplett in den Hintergrund!

Last Friday, we were invited to take part in the Sportabzeichen Tour at Jahnstadion.
Equipped with our pitching machine, we set up the mobile batting cage and waited for visitors. The kids practiced on the tossing machine, and those who were brave enough even stepped up to the pitching machine. Even though their hands were stinging from the hits, they were all incredibly proud.
Everyone had a blast trying out baseball – many came back for a second or even third round at the plate.
With all the excitement, no one paid much attention to the changing weather!

Allstars splitten in Wolfsburg

Gestern fand das Highlight unserer Sommerpause statt: Die Göttingen Allstars durften im neugebauten Birdcage 2.0 der erste Gegner der Wolfsburg Blackbirds II sein.

Spiel 1 war besonders hart umkämpft. Das Team geriet früh in Rückstand, aber durch die nahezu fehlerfreie Defense hinter Starting Pitcher Leander Schuhr blieben wir im Spiel. Auch an der Platte wurde gekämpft, und im 4. Inning konnte schließlich die Führung übernommen werden. Es blieb eng bis zum letzten Aus, aber am Ende stand ein verdienter 13:9-Sieg für die Allstars auf dem Scoresheet.

Im zweiten Spiel machte sich dann die verbrauchte Energie bemerkbar. Bis zum 3. Inning blieb das Spiel mit Starting Pitcher Jannis Kohlbrecher noch ausgeglichen, danach konnten die Blackbirds jedoch mit frischen Kräften im Team davonziehen. Die Allstars gaben nicht auf, dennoch ging das Spiel schließlich mit 8:15 verloren.

Neben den sportlichen Ergebnissen sind noch zwei individuelle Leistungen hervorzuheben: Jim Schmuck bestritt in dem Doubleheader seine ersten beiden Spiele für Göttingen und legte direkt einen starken Start hin. Besonders beeindruckend war auch das Comeback von Julius Paetow, der nach zwei Jahren Verletzungspause endlich wieder das Allstars-Jersey tragen konnte. Mit einem Double in seinem ersten At-Bat meldete er sich eindrucksvoll zurück.

Yesterday marked the highlight of our summer break: the Göttingen Allstars had the honor of being the very first opponents of the Wolfsburg Blackbirds II in the newly built Birdcage 2.0.

Game 1 was a real battle. The team fell behind early, but thanks to a nearly flawless defense behind starting pitcher Leander Schuhr, we stayed in the game. There was a strong fight at the plate as well, and in the 4th inning, we were able to take the lead. It remained close until the final out, but in the end, a well-deserved 13:9 win for the Allstars was recorded on the scoresheet.

In the second game, the spent energy started to show. The game stayed balanced up to the 3rd inning with starting pitcher Jannis Kohlbrecher on the mound, but after that, the Blackbirds, boosted by fresh players, managed to pull away. The Allstars never gave up, but the game ultimately ended in an 8:15 loss.

Beyond the athletic results, two individual performances deserve special mention: Jim Schmuck played his first two games for Göttingen in the doubleheader and delivered a strong debut. Also particularly impressive was the return of Julius Paetow, who was finally able to wear the Allstars jersey again after two years out due to injury. With a double in his first at-bat, he made a remarkable comeback.
